Dear Parents, Children, and Teens of Two Cranes Aikido,

This summer at Two Cranes we are launching a bridge program of intensives for our children and teens. A number of you have asked if we have a summer program. Here is our response. Traditionally summer is a challenging time to provide regular training for our students as families are traveling and vacationing. We have created several training opportunities that we hope will be a solution to keeping our kids and families in touch with Aikido over the summer.

Mini Cranes: Jen Sensei, assisted by Michelle and Jill, are offering an 8 week quarter beginning on July 8th. There is a maximum of 10 students for this class. This is a continuing class and will meet on 8 consecutive Tuesdays at our regularly scheduled time in July and August.

Children: We are offering 3 intensives. Each one has a theme and a variety of practices will be covered including ukemi(falling and rolling), stick work, open hand techniques and, of course, games. Students may sign up for one or all of the intensives.

Teens: There are two intensives. These will focus on working with a Bo (stick) and randori(multiple attackers). These practices are not regularly covered in our normal classes. Again, students may sign up for only one or both intensives.

These intensives will be taught by Kimberly, Helmut, Sara, and Jen Senseis. There is a minimum enrollment of 6 students per class. All classes will be at the dojo. If one day is forecast to be exceptionally nice we may take the students to the park to practice. We will inform you in advance if this is going to happen.

Teens who are enrolled in our normal Two Cranes teen classes and who are blue belts or higher may also attend regularly scheduled adult classes by paying student dues of $80 for the month or months they choose to train. If you have a question about which classes would be appropriate please speak with Sara.

Family Picnic: In August we are offering a special Two Cranes family picnic to be held at Maple Leaf Park, located at Roosevelt Way NE and NE 83nd St. We celebrate the opportunity to gather all of our children, teens, and their families along with the TCA teachers at one time for some good food, good talk, and fun. This is a potluck lunch so bring something simple to share. There are no stoves at this park so we won’t be cooking. The dojo will provide plates, napkins, utensils and beverages. After a bit of socializing and play the teachers will offer training time with the children. Please join us!

Thank you again for your continued interest and support of our Children’s and Teens program at Two Cranes. Because of you we have had a successful year and look forward to our summer plans.

Sincerely,

Kimberly Richardson
